Alandi, on the banks of the Indrayani river near Pune, is where the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi begins its journey to Pandharpur. The palkhi carrying the saint's paduka (holy footwear) departs from the Samadhi temple, and the first night's halt traditionally stays at Alandi itself before the long walk south begins.
