Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) crews just finished patching damaged sections of the local Palkhi routes. Recent heavy rains battered the roads. Now, with the Sant Tukaram Maharaj and Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhis moving through Pune, fixing these paths was urgent. Civic leaders ordered immediate repairs. They want to ensure a safe journey for all Varkaris.
Massive downpours earlier this week carved potholes and flooded key stretches of the designated paths. Many worried the foot pilgrimage might face serious trouble. PMC reacted fast. They sent out special maintenance squads. Armed with cold mix asphalt and heavy machinery, these workers tackled the road damage head-on.
Crews focused mostly on main arterial roads used by the Dindis. This includes crucial stretches heading toward Bhavani Peth and Nana Peth, where the Palkhis take scheduled rests. Civic officials say workers pulled an all-nighter. By morning, the road surfaces were safe again for the thousands of devotees walking in the procession.
Authorities also placed emergency response teams along the Alandi-Pandharpur and Dehu-Pandharpur paths inside city limits. These crews are keeping a close watch on road conditions. They stand ready if more rain brings new problems. Workers quickly cleared out water drainage systems on these routes. This prevents future waterlogging.
The routes are now clear. Varkaris and Dindi leaders are advised to proceed with their scheduled journeys. The administration is asking all participants to stick to planned paths and cooperate with police and volunteers. Meanwhile, earlier traffic diversions on the Pune-Pandharpur and Baramati routes are still active. This helps keep the Palkhis moving smoothly.
