Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi

Alandi

Alandi, on the banks of the Indrayani river near Pune, is where the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi begins its journey to Pandharpur. The palkhi carrying the saint's paduka (holy footwear) departs from the Samadhi temple, and the first night's halt traditionally stays at Alandi itself before the long walk south begins.

Pune

The Dnyaneshwar Palkhi halts in Pune for two nights, drawing enormous crowds along its route through the city. Pune Police coordinate one of the largest annual crowd-management operations in the state for this leg, including the well-known live palkhi tracker.

Saswad

Saswad is also the native place of Sant Sopankaka, Sant Dnyaneshwar's younger brother, making this halt especially significant — many warkaris visit the Sopankaka samadhi while the palkhi rests here overnight.

Jejuri

Jejuri, famous for its hilltop Khandoba temple, is a major halt where the palkhi procession is joined by thousands of additional pilgrims for the onward walk toward Lonand and Phaltan.

Walhe

A quieter rural halt on the Alandi route, Walhe marks the transition from the Pune-district hills into the drier Nira-valley stretch of the walk.

Lonand

Lonand is where the palkhi halts before the Nira Snan — the ceremonial bathing of Sant Dnyaneshwar's paduka in the Nira river, observed on 15 July each year — takes place ahead of the walk to Taradgaon.

Taradgaon

The palkhi arrives at Taradgaon on 16 July after the first standing Ringan (Ubha Ringan) of the season at nearby Chandobacha Limb — a ceremonial run of the palkhi's lead horse (Ashwa) that draws huge crowds.

Natepute

Natepute is the launch point for the circular Ringan (Gol Ringan) at nearby Purandawade on 20 July, one of the most photographed moments of the entire Wari.

Malshiras

The palkhi reaches Malshiras on 20 July, the same day as the circular Ringan at Purandawade — from here the route enters the final stretch of the Solapur-district plains toward Pandharpur.

Velapur is a two-night halt in the final approach to Pandharpur, giving pilgrims a brief rest before the closing stretch through Wakhari.

Wakhari

Wakhari is where the Dnyaneshwar and Tukaram palkhis traditionally meet before entering Pandharpur together. The final standing Ringan of the season takes place near Wakhari on 24 July, just before the palkhis reach the Vitthal Rukmini temple.
