Vitthal Rukmini Darshan Resumes in Pandharpur Following Vajralepan Conservation

Regular darshan of Shri Vitthal and Rukmini Mata reopened to pilgrims in Pandharpur on Saturday, September 26, 2026, following the successful completion of the sacred Vajralepan and conservation work on both holy idols. Devotees gathered at the temple premises from the early hours of the morning, chanting Haripath and Abhangs as normal queue lines resumed.

Completion of the Three-Day Conservation Process

Darshan had been temporarily suspended between September 23 and September 25 to allow conservation experts from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and certified heritage specialists to carry out the periodic protective treatment. Over centuries, continuous holy water baths, milk abhishek, panchamrit snan, and the reverent touch of millions of visiting Varkaris cause microscopic wear on the ancient black stone of the sacred idols.

The conservation protocol involved gentle cleaning of surface residues, microscopic assessment of structural fissures, and the meticulous application of organic and protective chemical resins known traditionally as Vajralepan. This process seals fine surface pores, protects the stone against moisture absorption, and ensures structural durability for generations to come without altering the divine facial features or traditional iconography.

Resumption of Padsparsha and Mukh Darshan

Following the final inspection and purification rituals performed early Saturday morning, both major darshan queues were reopened to the public:

• Padsparsha Darshan: Devotees can once again enter the sanctum sanctorum (Gabhara) to place their foreheads upon the holy feet of Shri Vitthal and Rukmini Mata. Pilgrims are advised to follow temple discipline and avoid applying excessive pressure on the newly conserved surfaces.
• Mukh Darshan: The faster darshan queue through the Mukhdarshan Mandap operates continuously for devotees who wish to have visual darshan without waiting in the foot-touching queue line.

Daily Aarti and Worship Timings Restored

All daily rituals and temple aartis have returned to their regular schedule:

• Kakad Aarti: 4:30 AM to 5:00 AM
• Nitya Mahapuja: 5:00 AM to 6:00 AM
• Madhyahna Pooja and Bhog: 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM
• Aparahna Dhuparti: 6:45 PM to 7:15 PM
• Shej Aarti: 11:00 PM
