PNGS Unveils 'Waricha Suvarnasaj' Gold Jewellery Inspired by Wari Tradition
Wari news · 18 Oct 2026
Centuries of devotion along the Pandharpur Wari now find expression in pure gold. P N Gadgil and Sons (PNGS) has unveiled 'Waricha Suvarnasaj', a handcrafted gold ornament steeped in the spirit of Maharashtra's ancient pilgrimage. Faith runs deep here. With Kartiki Ekadashi approaching, thousands of Varkaris are arriving in Pandharpur, and this new creation honors their boundless reverence for Shri Vitthal and Rukmini Mata.
Spiritual Inspiration from the Sacred Wari
For more than seven centuries, the Pandharpur pilgrimage has united devotees across Maharashtra. They walk hundreds of kilometers on foot. Moving in organized Dindis behind the sacred Palkhis of the saints, pilgrims sing the holy name of Mauli alongside Abhangs composed by Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj, Sant Tukaram Maharaj, and Sant Namdev Maharaj. 'Waricha Suvarnasaj' sets this shared devotion in gold, paying homage to the pilgrims and the presiding deities of Pandharpur.
Sacred Symbols Crafted in Gold
The ornament draws its design directly from the daily worship and spiritual life of a Varkari:
- Tulsi Mala Beads: The necklace features round golden beads shaped after the sacred basil beads worn by every initiated Varkari, symbolizing purity and continuous remembrance of the divine name.
- Shri Vitthal and Rukmini Mata Motifs: Central medallions depict the serene forms of Shri Vitthal standing with hands on hips upon the sacred brick, accompanied by Rukmini Mata.
- Matsya Karnabhushan: The piece includes the traditional fish-shaped ear ornaments that have adorned the idol of Shri Vitthal in Pandharpur for generations.
- Green Gemstones: Natural green stones are set alongside gold to recall fresh Tulsi leaves and the historic Kaustubh Mani described in classical devotional poetry.
Part of the 'Dagina Maharashtracha' Initiative
This devotional piece is the debut creation in a wider cultural initiative titled 'Dagina Maharashtracha' (The Jewel of Maharashtra). Twelve handcrafted gold pieces will follow across the year. Each edition centers on a specific historical event, folk tradition, or religious festival that defines Maharashtra's spirit. Starting with the Pandharpur Wari was an easy choice. The Varkari path holds an unmatched place in the cultural life of the state.
Varkari Devotion and Cultural Heritage
The annual Ashadhi procession concluded with the monsoon. Yet Pandharpur never rests. Thousands of pilgrims arrive daily for peaceful darshan at the Shri Vitthal-Rukmini Mandir. Temple rituals, daily Haripath, and Kirtans continue in full rhythm as the town prepares for the sacred Kartiki Wari festival in November. Tributes like 'Waricha Suvarnasaj' show how the values of simplicity, equality, and surrender taught by the saints remain a living inspiration across all walks of life.
