Navratri Day 6: Shri Vitthal and Rukmini Mata Adorned in Sacred Kamladevi Attire

Traditional Adornment on the Sixth Day of Navratri

Every day of Navratri brings a fresh, historic look to Shri Vitthal Rukmini Mandir in Pandharpur. Tradition runs deep here. For the sixth day, Goddess Rukmini appeared in the customary Kamladevi attire. Temple Committee Manager Pravinkumar Gham confirmed that the adornments and sacred offerings followed every detail of the shrine’s annual customs.

Historic Jewellery Adorned by Shri Vitthal

Shri Vitthal was adorned with heirloom gold and pearls from the temple treasury. His sacred ornaments include:

  • Head Ornaments: The gold crown (Suvarna Mukut), Balaji Naam mark on the forehead, pearl tura, and a large ten-pendant shirpech.
  • Necklaces: The Kaustubh Mani, single-strand and double-strand pearl kanthis, Marwadi petyacha pearl necklace, along with sacred single-strand and three-strand Tulsi malas.
  • Arm and Body Ornaments: Dandpeth jod, diamond-studded kangan jod, tode jod, and traditional fish-shaped ear ornaments (matsya jod).

Goddess Rukmini's Kamladevi Attire and Ornaments

Rukmini Mata embodies gentle maternal grace in her Kamladevi form. Her traditional jewellery includes:

  • Crown and Head Ornaments: Gold crown, stone-studded veni, petyanchi bindi, and a prominent traditional nath on the nose.
  • Necklaces: Jadau necklace, green chinchpeti, large tanmani, small sari, surya moti kantha, and bajirao garsoli.
  • Bangles and Body Ornaments: Pearl mangalsutra, gold bajuband, pearl patlya jod, karnaphule, taramandal, gold and pearl tanwad jod, matsya jod, rul jod, and silver paijan anklets.

Festive splendour touched every deity across the temple precincts. Alongside Shri Vitthal and Rukmini Mata, Radhika Mata received the nakshi top and putalya necklace, while Satyabhama Devi wore the siddheshwar top and javechi maal. Mahalakshmi Mata was decorated with a fifteen-strand chandrahar and gold ornaments.

Darshan Guidelines and Daily Aarti Schedule

Pandharpur is currently in a quiet spell between Ashadhi Wari and the upcoming Kartiki Wari on November 13, 2026. It is an ideal time for pilgrims. Devotees can experience peaceful darshan without facing the overwhelming rush of major palkhi periods.

Darshan is effortless right now. Both Padsparsha Darshan and Mukh Darshan queues are moving smoothly, with the deities visible in their complete festive alankars following the noon pooja. Keep the daily ritual schedule in mind:

  • Kakad Aarti: 4:30 AM to 5:00 AM (early morning awakening prayer).
  • Madhyanha Mahapuja: 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM (afternoon pooja where full alankars are placed).
  • Dhuparti: 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM (evening incense offering and prayer).
  • Shej Aarti: 10:30 PM to 11:00 PM (night ritual before the sanctum closes).

Current wait times remain relatively short. Expect about two to three hours for Padsparsha Darshan, while Mukh Darshan takes only 30 to 45 minutes. Pilgrims pressed for time should choose the morning Mukh Darshan queue.
