Devotees Offer 166-Gram Gold Tulsi Garlands to Shri Vitthal and Rukmini Mata

Devotional Suvarna Bhet at Pandharpur

A heartfelt offering of gold reached Pandharpur on October 11, 2026. Devotees Shri Rajiv Ranjan and Smt. Neeta Ranjan from Mumbai presented two gold Tulsi garlands at the sacred feet of Shri Vitthal and Rukmini Mata in the temple sanctum. The two garlands weigh 166 grams, with an estimated market value of approximately 22 lakh rupees.

Shri Vitthal-Rukmini Mandir Samiti member Smt. Shakuntala Nadgire formally felicitated the Ranjan couple on behalf of the temple administration. It was a heartfelt recognition of their devotion to Mauli and Rukmini Mata.

Significance of the Tulsi Garland in Varkari Bhakti

Tulsi is sacred beyond measure in the Varkari sampradaya. The holy basil garland is inseparable from the divine form of Shri Vitthal, gracing him day and night. Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj sang of this bond in numerous abhangs. To the Lord of Pandharpur, even a single humble leaf of Tulsi offered with pure devotion is priceless.

A Tulsi mala around the neck is a sacred vow of truth, simplicity, and compassion for every visiting Varkari. Devotion takes many forms. While common pilgrims offer fragrant green leaves gathered from their home courtyards, wealthy devotees often express their devotion through gold craftsmanship modeled on the holy Tulsi leaf. Centuries of temple records show that kings, Peshwas, and noble families have offered similar traditional gold ornaments in the past.

Daily Darshan Guidelines and Queue Information

Devotees visiting Pandharpur during this peaceful off-season period can take darshan through two separate arrangements:

  • Padsparsha Darshan: Allows pilgrims to enter the inner sanctum and touch the holy feet of Shri Vitthal and Rukmini Mata. Average waiting times during regular weekdays currently range from two to three hours.
  • Mukh Darshan: A faster queue that allows pilgrims to view the deities from the Mukhdarshan Mandap without entering the core sanctum. Waiting times for this queue generally take less than thirty to forty-five minutes.

The daily worship schedule proceeds smoothly according to ancient traditions. Temple gates open for Kakad Aarti at 4:30 AM, followed by the morning Panchamrit Pooja, while the afternoon Mahapuja and Naivedya take place at midday. The day closes with Shej Aarti at 11:00 PM.

Upcoming Kartiki Yatra 2026 Preparations

The Shri Vitthal-Rukmini Mandir Samiti has already started administrative preparations for the upcoming Kartiki Yatra, which will take place from November 10 to November 24, 2026. Kartiki Ekadashi falls on November 13, 2026. To accommodate the massive influx of pilgrims arriving across Maharashtra and neighboring states, the temple committee announced that 24-hour round-the-clock darshan will begin on November 14.

Right now, the temple town is quiet. For pilgrims seeking peaceful contemplation, meditation along the Chandrabhaga river, and unhurried temple poojas, the present weeks before the start of the Kartiki fair offer an ideal window to visit Pandharpur.
