Sardar Patel Jayanti: Leva Samaj Organises Grand Warkari Dindi in Bhusawal

A Devotional Departure from Conventional Rallies
National Unity Day in Bhusawal took on a fresh, quiet grace this year. Marking Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's birth anniversary, the Leva Patidar community stepped away from noisy bike rallies and congested streets. They chose a disciplined Varkari Dindi instead. Devotees from every generation turned out in large numbers. Men and women carried saffron flags, sang soulful Abhangs, and chanted the name of Shri Vitthal as one family. And in doing so, they bound national pride effortlessly with Maharashtra’s living spiritual heritage.
Procession from Ashtabhuja Mandir to Old Satara
The Dindi got underway on Saturday morning from the sanctified grounds of the Ashtabhuja Mandir. True to age-old Varkari tradition, devotees formed neat, orderly rows and held their calm discipline from start to finish. Hundreds of women walked in traditional dress, carrying sacred Kalash on their heads with serene poise. It was a magnificent sight. Soon, the rhythmic pulse of the mridang and the bright chime of cymbals rose above the streets, carrying cries of 'Gyanba Tukaram' alongside beloved bhajans. The procession wound peacefully through Bhusawal’s main neighbourhoods until it reached Old Satara, where devotees gathered around the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel to offer flowers and bow before the Iron Man of India.
Agricultural Symbols and Inspiring Living Tableaux
The organizers drew deeply on the farming traditions and devotional soul of Khandesh:
- Decorated Bullock Carts: Bullock carts were decorated with fresh banana trunks, mango leaves, and sugarcane stalks. This paid respect to the farming heritage that sustains rural Maharashtra.
- Sardar Patel Tribute: A tractor carried a grand cutout of Sardar Patel, surrounded by saffron flags and national banners, reminding attendees of his contribution to national integration.
- Living Tableaux: Children and youths presented live historical portrayals of Sardar Patel alongside Khandesh's revered saint-poet Sant Bahinabai. These portrayals offered lessons in moral courage, devotion, and social harmony.
Dignitaries and Community Leaders Walk on Foot
Nobody stood apart. Leaders, social workers, and ordinary citizens walked the entire route alongside everyday Varkaris. Union Minister of State Raksha Khadse, Member of Legislative Assembly Amol Jawale, community head Lalit Patil, Suhas Choudhary, Bharat Maharaj Bedikar, Acting Mayor Shailaja Narkhede, Pratishtha Mahila Mandal President Rajni Savkare, Dr. Ketki Patil, NCP District President Umesh Nemade, and former civic leaders joined the congregation on foot. And as community elders noted, public gatherings must strengthen moral character, teach young people cultural discipline, and preserve social harmony.
Pre-Wari Devotion Ahead of Kartiki Ekadashi
The timing was especially meaningful for devotees of Shri Vitthal. With Kartiki Wari 2026 just nine days away, Varkari mandals across Maharashtra are busy wrapping up preparations. The Palkhis are not on the roads to Pandharpur yet, but temple committees, transport bodies, and local administrations are already at work setting up shelter camps, medical centers, and bus routes. In Bhusawal, the peaceful Dindi offered a quiet lesson. The egalitarian spirit of the Varkari path still has the power to bring people together and awaken genuine civic duty.
