Pune Palkhi Traffic Alert: Key Roads Shut Till July 11 For Pilgrimage

Major Road Closures in Pune

Pune police just locked down the city center. Expect massive road closures and traffic diversions until July 11. Authorities are doing this to ensure a smooth passage for the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhis. Lakhs of Varkaris are arriving in Pune for their resting halt. Central traffic management is going to be incredibly strict.

The Palkhis will take their scheduled route straight through the heart of the city. Normal traffic is out. Several arterial roads are completely shut down for vehicles.

Specific Road Shut Downs

• Pune-Mumbai Highway: Traffic from Wakdewadi to Sancheti Hospital will be stopped and diverted via the old Mumbai-Pune highway.
• FC Road and JM Road: Both Fergusson College Road and Jangali Maharaj Road will see major restrictions. Commuters must use alternate parallel lanes.
• Shivajinagar to Swargate: The direct route from Shivajinagar to Swargate via Bajirao Road and Shivaji Road is closed. Vehicles must use the canal road or the outer ring roads.
• Camp Area: Traffic towards the Camp area from Pune station is heavily restricted. Police have placed diversions near the Collector office.

Heavy Vehicle Restrictions

Heavy vehicles are banned from entering city limits. It is a complete shutdown for them. Trucks traveling between Mumbai and Solapur or Ahmednagar must bypass the city entirely using the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass. Extra police personnel are standing by at major entry points to enforce this ban.

Do not drive into the central Peth areas unless absolutely necessary. Take the Pune Metro. Surface roads will see severe delays. Ambulances and emergency vehicles still have safe passage through dedicated lanes.
