Palkhi Route Update: July 21
Ashadhi Ekadashi is almost here. Both major palkhis are now in the final leg of their walk to Pandharpur. Today, the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi left Velapur. It is making its way to the planned mukkam at Bhandishegaon. Amidst the continuous विठ्ठलनामाचा गजर, the वारकरी are expected to take a short visava (rest) along the road. They should arrive at the halt by evening.
The Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi is moving from Akluj down to Borgaon. It is a stunning sight. And following the traditional schedule, both palkhis are set to converge at Wakhari tomorrow.
Traffic and Weather Updates
Light rain hit the stretch between Malshiras and Velapur today. Varkaris are advised to keep their belongings dry. Also, local officials have set up medical camps and temporary shelters at the Bhandishegaon and Borgaon mukkam spots.
Are you driving? The main approach roads to Pandharpur from Akluj and Velapur are closed to general traffic. Motorists heading towards Solapur must use the designated diversion routes via Tembhurni. State transport buses do have their own special corridors. This ensures uninterrupted supply of essential services to the Dindis.
What is the Pandharpur Wari Route?
The Sant Dnyaneshwar Palkhi travels through Pune, Saswad, Phaltan, and Malshiras. Then it reaches Pandharpur. The Sant Tukaram Palkhi takes a different path. It goes through Baramati, Indapur, and Akluj. This whole journey takes nearly three weeks on foot. And it brings lakhs of devotees straight to the holy city of Vitthal, eager to see their माऊली.
